So often I hear people saying they never have time to do things they enjoy or that they don’t even know what they like to do because they haven’t had time for themselves in so long. Whether it be a mentally draining day, a long commute, family or community obligations, or too much time spent consuming media at the core we make time for the things we care about.
Personally, I’ve found it less difficult to make time for my art in the past. However, different variables in my life have changed making it difficult to push myself to draw or write after decompressing from a long day. There are a handful of tips I’ve learned over the last few years that I’ve been using to continue making time for creating art.
Make sure you’re getting enough rest
Wake up earlier to make time for writing or drawing
Motivation is found in doing
Not everything you make has to be awesome
Finished is better than perfect
Be mindful of your goals and what it takes to achieve them
Be supportive of the people around you and their goals
Even if it’s just for 10 minutes a day write or draw
Enjoy the time that you’re creating, don’t turn art into a chore
Schedule your day, be intentional with how you use your time
These are tips that I remind myself to practice in additional to daily reading and meditation.
If you have any tips that help push you to keep creating art through the difficult seasons of life please share them.
